Safety SIL2 switching cam encoders: SSI / incremental

The electronic switching cam encoders from TWK have been successfully used in wind turbines for a number of years. This easily parametrised and robust alternative to mechanical switching cam encoders is undergoing constant further development. The standard SSI and incremental interfaces, which are used to transfer the current position value to the control system, have recently been added. And this is now accomplished with a resolution of 15 bits / 360° for SSI (= 32,768 steps) and a measuring range of 4096 revolutions. The safety technology refers to position registration and signal processing up to and including the four SIL2 switching contacts which ensure that switching is carried out safely when the respective positions are reached - if a turbine gondola must not continue turning under any circumstances, for instance. Parametrisation is carried out in a customer-friendly manner by means of teach-in. As position registration takes place play-free, the switching positions are also exact. The compact design in the stable housing (aluminium or stainless steel) ensures simple installation and the necessary operational reliability over a number of years. Of course, all of this is available at an attractive price.
