New generation of safety vibration sensors

The safety vibration sensor NVA/S3 is certified according to EN ISO 13849-1:2015 PLd and registers accelerations from 0.05 to 60 Hz with an amplitude of up to 2 g. It has been optimised for use in the wind power industry to protect wind turbines from damage caused by tower and generator vibrations. The acting acceleration is evaluated using selectable frequency filters and output via the CANopen Safety interface. Two safe switching contacts are available as parametrisable limit switches for the safety chain.

The measured acceleration value can be output and processed as a momentary or peak value, as an RMS mean value or also as an integrated value. The latter function is important to shut the system off if an adjustable acceleration limit value is exceeded slightly but over a long period of time. Fast low-order Butterworth filters can be used to implement control processes. The Fourier frequency analysis, which determines the frequency spectrum, rounds off the functional diversity offered by the NVA/S3. A similar vibration sensor model is also available with PROFIsafe via the PROFINET interface: NVT90.

The new sensor supplements TWK's portfolio of safe PLd/SIL2-certified sensors that have proved their reliability in industrial applications, such as inclinometers, rotary encoders and switching cam encoders.
