The probability of an undetected sensor fault can be reduced either in the sensor or in the system's control system by means of plausibility checks. This enables the sensors to be used in safety facilities.

If the plausibility check is to take place internally within the sensor, TWK offers a range of SIL2/PLd-certified sensors. If the user wishes to leave this task to the control system, sensors of a redundant design are typically used. TWK's product range also encompasses appropriate sensors in this case.

In areas which are at risk from explosion, sensor heating must remain below the ignition temperature. As a result of this, ATEX (ATmosphères EXplosibles) sensors are designed in such a way that the ignition temperature is not exceeded even in the event of a short-circuit. Explosion protection safety is increased through a combination of functional safety and ATEX.
